Fiddle Workshops, A Concert and A Dance!
FIDDLE WORKSHOPS – SUNDAY, MARCH 19TH
Where: The Lounge, 2nd floor, Oak Bay Recreation Centre, 1975 Bee Street
Cost: $20 each
Quinn Bachand, who is well known as one of Canada’s most outstanding young musicians and Berklee College of Music Graduate (recipient of the Presidential Scholarship), will be teaching three workshops on the fiddling of James Isnardy.
In 2017, Quinn discovered lost archives of one of BC’s earliest fiddlers, James “Jimmy” Isnardy (1879-1978) – a St’at’imc packer, rancher, barber and local musician living in BC’s Cariboo region. 19th century residents and miners taught Isnardy the region’s earliest repertoire. Some of this repertoire, ornamentation and bowing will be instructed by Quinn Bachand and divided into the following three levels:
Levels:
Beginner – 10:00 to 11:00 am: Students will learn one beginner tune from Isnardy’s repertoire
Intermediate – 11:15 to 12:15 pm: Students will learn one intermediate tune from Isnardy’s repertoire, concentrating on Isnardy’s bowing techniques
Advanced – 12:30 to 1:30 pm: Students will learn one advanced tune from Isnardy’s repertoire, focusing on his ornamentation and bowing techniques
